Hi Everyone I wonder if anyone could give me the benefit of their advice and help, please: I have a problem with my Hotpoint DWF70 dishwasher. The rinse aid symbol - a small cross and a large cross - on the display has been persistently flashing for the last week.
I have checked the rinse aid compartment, which has never been empty throughout the course of this problem, and have topped up at the rate of every other day, after which the symbol disappears, only to reappear at the end of the next wash.
I have never needed to re-fill more regularly than once a month, just as I do the salt reservoir. I use the 'normal' programme once a day and the 'intensive' programme once a month for a maintenance wash. The rinse aid setting is on 4.
As some background information, I recently called out an engineer - under the terms of my extended warranty - because the salt level indicator was flashing persistently. The engineer said that I should not rely on the symbols to determine if levels of salt and rinse aid are low and recommended a weekly top up in any event, so, theoretically, the symbols should never need to flash.
In addition, he suggested that I keep a log for six weeks, stipulating which programme s I am using in case it transpires there is a fault with one of them, should I need to arrange another engineer's visit.
Perhaps I should not rely on the symbols, as he advised, but the fact that I have had a problem with one or both symbols flashing is proving something of an annoyance. Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.
I suppose the main thing is, that its doing its job and washing the dishes properly. Do glasses come out clean enough? If you have a faulty oil light in your car, you don't buy a new car, just change and check the oil more often.
System Posts: 2, Forum Member. Hi 83ray1 Thanks for your reply. Indeed, my dishwasher is cleaning everything properly, including the glasses, so I am satisfied with it in that respect.
Paulsad Posts: Forum Member. That'a a bad attitude from the engineer - the machine has a fault and they should get it fixed - can't rely on indicators? Utter rubbish; you are being fobbed off.
We have soft water here and I don't need salt but there is a way on my dishwasher to turn off salt indicator if you are using tablets that have the salt in or are in soft water areas. Most of us recognise the symbols we find on clothing; they help us to set our washing machines correctly.
But are you aware of the most common dishwasher symbols? Learning the basics could help you get more out of your machine. With the dishwasher increasingly becoming crucial to busy families, knowing how to care for dishes -- and efficiently operate your dishwasher -- could save you a lot of money.
There are a few very common symbols that you should know about when washing dishes in a dishwasher.
The wine glass picture on a piece of crockery means, unsurprisingly, that this dishwasher program is designed to wash glassware. It may be called a delicate program on your machine. Taking care of glass in a dishwasher is important. How to: Activate and Deactivate Child lock on Samsung Ecobubble Washing Machine.
Put it on the wrong cycle too often and the glass can become cloudy and brittle. This program will usually result in a hot rinse which will give your glassware extra shine. The picture of a shower on your dishwasher dial means that the program is designed for an intensive rinse or a pre-wash. This is handy if you want to give all of your dishes a thorough soaking, rather than standing them in the sink or running them under the tap.
You probably have an icon on your dishwasher that looks like a casserole dish or a large pot. You may have more than one with different temperatures next to them. These washes are typically designed for hot washing of pots that have stubborn, caked on food. A temperature of 65 degrees Celsius is adequate for normal cooking. If you have a very burnt pot, you may need a slightly higher temperature.
To save money, always choose the lower setting if in doubt.
Hotpoint Dishwasher Manuals
The economy setting on any dishwasher is the best way to save money. The downside is that an eco program is only really food for standard dishes, like dirty plates and cutlery. Heated drying uses electricity to heat up the air. You can speed up air drying by opening your dishwasher door slightly to allow the moisture to evaporate.
Often, repair costs can spiral out of control, sometimes costing more than a new machine. Instead, look into a fixed price quote for dishwasher repair. Please ensure the protective brackets or bolts used for transportation have all been removed before using your washing machine. As part of the manufacturing process we thoroughly test your washing machine to ensure that it will not leak from any internal components after you have installed it.
Any leaking before or during its first use is most likely due to water still remaining in the washing machine following this testing process.
Further checks can be easily carried out. Firstly, we would recommend checking the fill hose, drain hose and mains plumbing for leaks. Take care to check the fill hose connection to your washing machine and to the mains plumbing taps are secure. You can raise the front of the appliance by adjusting the feet at the front of the machine.
We would also recommend double checking the water supply hose connections at both ends as well as checking the drain hose during the pump out process.Home Appliance Geek. Although every dishwasher is different, most of the symbols are similar across the different dishwasher brands and models. Each dishwasher offers a different range of programs that you can run the machine on, and each program has a specific symbol that represents that program cycle.
Note : Diagrams and more information on these symbols can be seen for different dishwashers further down in the article. They take longer to un and use more energy. This program takes more time than a normal wash but uses less energy. Expect the average Eco cycle to take around 3 hours. This program is best used if it takes days to fill up your dishwasher, and you want to give the items inside a quick rinse to avoid dirt baking on.
Delay timers are usually an icon such as 3h, 6h, 9h etc. These icons are used to show how many hours you have set the dishwasher to delay. For example, if you start a program at 1 pm and delay it for 3h, then it will start at 4 pm. There are other error codes or warning light sequences that can also be displayed. These are more common when the dishwasher is being installed, and something may not have been turned on or connected properly, but they can also represent an appliance fault if they display at a later date.
Hotpoint Dishwasher Error Codes
A definition of the different error codes or warning lights, and what they mean can be seen below each specific appliance listed later in this article. Longer inlet time. Faucets are not opened, or water intake is restricted, or water pressure is too low. Some element of the dishwasher is leaking. It can be used to wash crockery with a normal soil level and is the most efficient cycle in terms of energy and water consumption for this type of crockery. No detergent is needed for this program.
There are no salt or rinse-aid indicators on the main panel. These indicators can be seen next to each dispenser. There is no water in the mains supply, or the water inlet hose is bent. Ensure the tap is turned on and the appliance will start after a few minutes. Re-program the appliance and restart the wash cycle.
There are a number of different Bosch models available in the Serie range, with Bosch Serie 2 being the best buy, but Bosch Serie 4 and Bosch Serie 6 being great additions for those looking to spend a little extra. One thing that is pretty obvious with the Bosch Serie range is that their freestanding models are much easier to understand.
This is because the control panel area is much larger, and therefore Bosch have opted to use the space to label each button and light clearly. If you have read the entire article up to this point, then you should have likely already covered most of the indicators in the above diagram.
The list below describes the function for each button and indicator in the previous Bosch Serie 2 diagram:. This function can reduce the running time by approx. To obtain optimum cleaning and drying results at a reduced running time, water and energy consumption are increased. Perfect for a mixed load.
You can wash very soiled pots and pans in the lower basket together with normally soiled utensils in the upper basket. The spray pressure in the lower basket is intensified, the rinsing temperature is increased slightly. The temperature is increased during the cleaning process. This increases the hygiene status.
